Meet our Honorary Captain: Silvi
Silvi was a happy healthy 3-year-old until October 2023, when a recurring fever and knee pain surfaced. Suspecting a cold, doctors initially advised rest. However, as Silvi’s energy vanished, I insisted on an appointment. On Friday October 13, blood work confirmed our worst nightmare, our baby girl had leukemia.
We rushed to Albany Med, meeting our oncologist Dr. Geaney. The first week was a blur of transfusions, biopsies, and the start of chemotherapy. Despite this "living nightmare," Silvi reached remission after her first treatment cycle, however the chemo regimen continued.
After 2.5 years of enduring countless lumbar punctures, chemo rounds and hospital trips with "rockstar" resilience, Silvi finally completed treatment in January of this year. Today, she is, as she likes to say, “just a normal kid” full of energy and joy. Silvi will always be our family's superhero and inspiration, proving her strength, resilience and courage every single day.
