My name is Pete McAfee, and I’m a right leg amputee local to southern Oregon.  Access to proper prosthetics and prosthetic care changed my life. I am climbing mountains, pushing my limits, and exceeding what I once thought to be impossible with one leg.

Some of my accomplishments include:

Unguided ascent and first known amputee ski descent of Denali (Mt McKinley) 20,310’

First known amputee ski descent of the Fuhrer Finger on Mt Rainier

Successful summit of Aconcagua 22,841’

Successful summits of Cotopaxi 19,347’ with teams of other amputees in both 2021 and 2025

Featured athlete in Warren Miller ski films “Winter Starts Now” and “Daymaker”

This year, I am captaining another fundraising climb to help other amputees up Cotopaxi while raising money for amputees living without a prosthesis. The effort, pain, and the mental and physical struggle that we experience while climbing these mountains is symbolic of what amputees living without a prosthesis feel every day.  Again, I am climbing to raise awareness and money to buy prosthetic limbs for amputees in need, and I am asking for your help. 

The Range Of Motion Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that is able to provide high-quality prosthetics, prosthetic care, and necessary physical therapy to patients for much less than anyone else out there.  $2500 will provide one patient with their entire prosthetic rehabilitation.
