In my role as President + CEO of the Dempsey Center, I get to see every day what it means to support someone through cancer—not just medically, but emotionally, physically, and as a whole person. We provide counseling, movement and nutrition support, integrative therapies, community connection, and so much more—all at no cost.

This work is personal to me in a very real way.

I lost my grandparents to lung cancer between the ages of 6 and 23. That experience shaped my upbringing and ultimately my path into healthcare. At the time, resources like the Dempsey Center didn’t exist for them—and I often think about how much support like this could have meant for them, and for our family.

And I see that need show up in real time.

Early in my time at the Center, I met a man who came in to learn more about our services. His wife had died from cancer years earlier, and he told me, “I think I’m ready—and need—to talk to someone about this now.”

That moment has stayed with me. Because it’s a reminder that cancer’s impact doesn’t end when treatment ends—and that support, sometimes years later, can still change someone’s life.

That’s why this work matters so much.

The Dempsey Challenge is our largest fundraising event of the year, and it directly supports thousands of individuals and families navigating cancer.
