Supporting Team Little Langes

In honor of Malia Keller (May 19, 2021) and Sophie Elizabeth (July 30, 2024).

Malia and Sophie’s Stories

In 2020, we found out we were expecting our first baby. It felt like the beginning of everything we had dreamed of.

At our 20-week anatomy scan, that joy shifted. There were concerns… and after further testing, we learned our daughter had triploidy—a rare and fatal condition that cannot be detected by genetic testing performed at 12 weeks.

So, just as we were nearing the third trimester, we had to do the impossible: we said both hello and goodbye to our daughter, Malia Keller, in May of 2021.

That experience changed us.

The grief was deep, but so was the trauma. It was a dark season that reshaped our lives in ways we’re still uncovering.

Somehow, we kept moving forward. We chose faith, even when fear felt louder. In June of 2024, we welcomed our son, Declan James. But if I’m being honest, we didn’t fully exhale until he was safely in our arms.

When Declan was about a year and a half, we felt ready to try again—to give him a sibling here on Earth. We found out we were expecting another girl. Her name was Sophie Elizabeth.

And then, once again, came the words no parent is prepared to hear.

Concerns at an ultrasound led to more testing, and we learned she had chromosomal abnormalities that were not compatible with life. We said goodbye to our second angel in July of 2024.

Two pregnancies. Two different diagnoses. Both described as “bad luck.” Nothing genetic. Nothing we could have prevented.

Just heartbreak—again.

By that point, we didn’t know what to think or feel. We only knew we still longed to grow our family.

In September of 2025, we welcomed our son, Reece Michael. Another deep breath. Another answered prayer.

Our story holds both immense grief and immense gratitude. We will carry the loss of our daughters for the rest of our lives.

But one of the hardest parts of loss like this is how isolating it can feel. Finding organizations like No Foot Too Small reminded us that we’re not alone—that there is a community of families who understand this kind of love, this kind of loss. And that matters more than words can say.

The Langes will be participating in the Des Moines Angels in the Outfield, a fundraiser supporting No Foot Too Small this month. Every donation—big or small—will help us reach our goal.

Here's how you can help:

  • Donate: Contribute whatever you can. No amount is too small!
  • Spread the Word: Share my fundraising page with your friends, family, and social networks. Let’s spread awareness so we can raise more!

Thank you for standing by us in this effort.
