William (Bill) Parkinson's Story
My Parkinson's story began about 10 years ago when I noticed my left hand would shake or tremor sometimes. I didn't think twice about it and I noticed that I could make it stop by just concentrating on it. My wife said she noticed it also and she prayed that the tremor was not Parkinson's Disease. About a year later the small tremor continued and I noticed while driving I was stopping for red traffic lights several feet behind the car in the next lane. I went to my doctor and he referred me to a Neurologist who examined me and told me I had Parkinson's Disease. Parkinson's is humbling, especially for the guy who joined the Marine Corp at 18 years old, fought in Vietnam and was blessed to return home safely. I worked two or more jobs all my life, worked in the church, father of three wonderful sons, one beautiful daughter and blessed with six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. I never experienced any mental or physical limitations until Parkinson's. I thank the Lord that I have been married to a wonderful and supportive wife for 50 years. She's my friend, love, wife and caregiver. When I'm down mentally and phyically, she picks me up. I thank the Lord for my children, family, church family, friends and Julia Wall and the Livonia Parkinson's Support Group. All of them are a blessing.
