Trinity Health Livonia Rehab Fundraising Page
We are a team of PT/OTs working in the inpatient rehabilitation setting and have the privilege of helping many individuals living with Parkinson's disease. We witness the physical, emotional, and daily challenges that Parkinson's can bring, not only for patients but also for their families and caregivers. We are participating in the Parkinson's Hero Walk to show our support, raise awareness, and help fund programs and resources that make a meaningful difference for those affected by PD throughout their journey. Parkinson's Hero Walk
Parkinson's Disease:
- What is Parkinsons’s disease?
- Slowly progressing neurogenerative disease outpacing Alzheimer’s disease
- Affects ability to move associated with tremors, slowness and stiffness of the limbs
- Over 90,000+ new cases diagnosed in the United States each year
- 35,000 people living with Parkinson’s in Michigan
- 1 in 15 people will be diagnosed in a lifetime
- 1 person is diagnosed every 6 minutes
- Men are 1.5x more likely than women to be diagnosed
- Only 12-15% of cases are genetic; environment is a big factor along with a person’s own unique biology, genes, and exposure to environmental factors
Michigan Parkinson's Foundation:
- MPF was founded in 1983
- MPF’s four pillars: exercise (only proven intervention to slow the progression of the disease), respite care, educational events, community (we have 76 out of 83 counties in MI)
- Every dollar raised helps the Michigan Parkinson Foundation provide education, exercise, support groups, mentorship, respite care, and resources for individuals and families living with Parkinson's throughout Michigan.
