My name is Jose “Joey” Ruelas, and this year I’m running the runDisney Wine & Dine 10K and Half Marathon with Dragon Masters Initiative to raise money for cancer research.
Cancer became deeply personal to me when a close friend of mine survived stage 4 testicular cancer. I spent a week with him in the hospital during treatment, witnessing firsthand how exhausting, painful, and emotionally draining each day was. Watching someone I care about fight that hard for his life changed me. It opened my eyes to how quickly everything can be taken away—and how urgently we need better treatments and more hope for those facing cancer.
Dragon Masters Initiative focuses on using data and research to help doctors develop more targeted, effective treatments for cancer patients—especially children. Your donation goes directly toward that mission, supporting research and innovation that can lead to new discoveries, more survivors, and more stories like my friend’s.
My goal is to raise $1,850 by May 1, 2026. Any amount—$5, $10, $25—truly makes a difference. If you’re not able to donate, sharing this page is another powerful way to support the cause.
As I run through the Disney parks, I’ll be thinking of another close friend who is currently battling stage 4 lung cancer, everyone who is fighting, those we’ve lost, and the survivors who inspire us to keep going.
