Much of the most impactful knowledge and experience I gained during my college years was as a result of my work as a volunteer raising future service dogs. Since July of 2022, I have raised three puppies into adulthood. Two of which have been successfully placed into service capacities: Neon is a Facility Dog for the St. Petersburg Police Department in Virginia in a community outreach program, and Opal is a Service Dog for a Veteran, tasked with mitigating the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. In addition, I have raised Eik, a dog who has since been released from the program, but has directed his energy (or lack thereof) into being a therapy dog. Currently, I am raising my fourth puppy, Namaste. In addition to bringing me satisfaction and joy, my puppy-raising experience has enhanced my sense of identity and purpose, increased my self-confidence, and shown me that dedication and resolve can have impressive results.
Leading up to DogFest 2026, I am raising money to support the Canine Companions mission. The impact these dogs have on the lives of people with disabilities is incredible. Help me get to my fundraising goal by donating online so we can get more of these amazing Canine Companions service dogs into the lives of those who need them. Every little bit will help me reach my goal. Thank you!
