Hello family, friends, and community supporters,

I am so happy you've stumbled upon my fundraising page! 

On May 15, 2026, I graduated from the North Central region with my first service dog, Kismet VIII. It was a day I had dreamed of for nearly four years, and a day that I will remember forever. My classmates and I were wrapping up two intensive weeks of lectures, homework, daily practice, and public outings. We were exhausted, but so grateful for the opportunity to learn alongside each other with guidance from some of the best instructors. This incredible dog was finally mine. 

The story of how we came to be a team is even more incredible. You could say it was divine intervention. 

I'm told that Kismet's previous handler, Dan Darkow, was one in a million. He was a tireless advocate of disability rights and never backed down from what he believed in.  His passing in Febuary of 2026 created a ripple effect that is still felt, but I am forever connected to both the Darkow family and Kismet's puppy raisers, Elaina and Daisy Lehman. Because of the Darkow family's selflessness, Kismet is able to continue doing what she was born to do. The  symbolism of our story  is not lost on me. In fact, her name means "fate" or "destiny". She came bunny hopping into my life precisely when I needed her. All of these dogs end up exactly where they are supposed to be. It's my hope that I can continue to keep Dan's legacy and his passion for Canine Companions alive.

Being Kismet's handler/Mommy has already been the ride of a lifetime. She is my sunshine, my joy, a steady presence, and my best friend.  When you donate to DogFest, you help Canine Companions place more highly trained assistance dogs into the hands of children, adults, and veterans with disabilities. Our story may only be just beginning, but I can assure you that she has made a huge impact on my life in a short time
