Hi, I’m Penny. I Flunked Out (But In a Cute Way).
Okay, okay. I didn’t technically flunk.
I just… discovered that my true calling in life was being a Professional Couch Warmer instead of a life-changing Canine Companion.
Turns out, I loved belly rubs a little more than advanced task training. I preferred “snack quality control” over “retrieve the dropped item.” And while other dogs were mastering 45 commands, I was mastering… dramatic melts into the ground.
But here’s the important thing:
Because Canine Companions has such high standards, only the very best candidates move on to become working dogs. That means dogs like me — who are sweet, social, and slightly too enthusiastic about squirrels — get lovingly placed as pets.
And that’s actually a success story.
Every puppy is carefully bred, raised, socialized, and professionally evaluated. The dogs who do become working partners go on to change lives — helping veterans sleep through the night, helping kids build confidence, helping adults live more independently.
The dogs like me?
We become beloved family members. We spread joy. We continue the mission in our own slightly less structured way. And some of us become therapy dogs (I'm working on it!)
When you donate to my DogFest fundraiser, you’re supporting:
? The future life-changing service dog
? The volunteers who raise us
? The expert trainers who help us find our perfect path
So give if you can. Do it for the dogs who go on to change lives.
And maybe a tiny bit for the ones who change couches.
Love,
Penny
