Before my first service dog, there were sounds I simply couldn’t access. Today, I don’t face that world alone.

Even with hearing devices, there are moments when I’m completely without sound when they’re off at the end of the day or while I’m asleep.

That’s when my service dogs matter most, alerting me to the sounds that keep me safe.

My first hearing dog, Ruthann II (“Ruthie”), changed everything. For over 11 years, she helped me navigate the world with confidence alerting me to everyday sounds like my phone ringing, timers, knocks at the door, and doorbells, as well as critical sounds like fire alarms, smoke detectors, and emergency sirens.

Now, I’m stepping into my next chapter with my successor dog, Roma VII, my second incredible partner from Canine Companions.

These dogs do more than alert me to sound. They give me independence, confidence, and peace of mind. They allow me to move through the world more safely, more freely, and with a deeper sense of connection to everything around me.

And here’s the part that makes this even more powerful, these life-changing dogs are provided at no cost to recipients.

From breeding and raising to training and matching, Canine Companions invests years into each dog. It truly takes a village to make partnerships like mine possible.
