FRIENDS OF THE POOR WALK 2026

Lace up to support our Long Island neighbors. One step at a time, one neighbor at a time.

Saturday September 26, 2026 is our annual

Friends of the Poor Walk at Heckscher State Park.

Join a team today to make a difference in your community!

For those unfamiliar with the park, the 1,600 acres of Heckscher State Park on the south shore of Long Island are used by park visitors for a number of outdoor activities; primarily, the park's shady picnic groves provide the idyllic spots for family and group picnic outings. Large open fields are used for soccer, cricket, lacrosse, and other field sports. Four miles of paved, multi-use trails attract bicycle riders, walkers, and nature lovers. In addition to stunning views of the Great South Bay with Fire Island as the backdrop, visitors see whitetail deer, a variety of birds and other wildlife.

We are looking forward to a fun family event and hoping for beautiful weather. Invite friends and family to walk with you and make it a full, fun day together walking for a greater cause and enjoying the beautiful scenery of the park.

The 5k path stretches 3.1 miles through the park and along the waterfront. Enjoy snacks, ice cream, and FUNdraising back at our picnic pavillion!

Please note, dogs are not allowed at Heckscher State Park.
