We are the Alliance of PKU Families, a dedicated regional affiliate of the National PKU Alliance (NPKUA), proudly serving Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, DC, Pennsylvania, and surrounding areas since 1994. Founded by parents, our mission is to advocate for the health, well-being, and daily lives of children, adults, and families affected by phenylketonuria (PKU)—a rare genetic disorder requiring lifelong management to prevent serious complications from phenylalanine buildup.
Through our partnership with the NPKUA, we help fund innovative research for improved therapies and a cure, provide essential resources, connect families for support and shared experiences, and build stronger communities so no one faces PKU alone.
This May—PKU Awareness Month—our team is uniting through Move Your Pheet to get active (walking, running, biking, or any movement that works for you!) while raising funds to power the NPKUA's critical work in research, education, and family support.
Join us in person for a special community event! We're hosting a fun, family-friendly gathering on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the beautiful Westminster Community Pond in Westminster, MD (located at College View Blvd off Rt. 140/Rt. 97/Littlestown Pike). Come walk the easy paved loop around the pond (great for all ages and abilities), enjoy the serene setting with ducks and nature, picnic on the open grass, relax at the pavilion, play at the nearby playground, and connect with other PKU families and supporters. Share stories, celebrate progress, and move together in a relaxed, welcoming space. All are welcome—bring your family, friends, or anyone who wants to show support! (More details, including any RSVP info, will be shared closer to the date via our website or email.)
Whether you're logging miles virtually with our team or joining us in Maryland, every step and every donation helps advance PKU research, strengthen families, and bring us closer to a cure.
Donate to the Alliance of PKU Families team today and help us make an even bigger impact. Together, we're stronger—because every family deserves hope and support.
Thank you from all of us!
