Running to show that donation isn't the end of anything — it's a beginning.
On September 11, 2025, I donated my kidney. I didn't have it all figured out, but I can honestly say that I wasn't nervous or uncertain. I still did massive amounts of googling to make sure I could ease the worries of my family by being well-informed about the risks. Donating turned out to be one of the most meaningful things I've ever done with my life.
While going through the process, I discovered Kidney Donor Athletes, a community of people who had donated and then gone right back to doing the hard, joyful, sweaty things they loved. Their stories continue to motivate me and so many others. I am grateful to be part of that. And honestly, I want to help prove something:
A person with one kidney can do anything a person with two can do. Even run a marathon. Even at my age.
So I joined the KDA team, laced up my shoes, and started training. On November 1st, 2026, I'll be running the New York City Marathon — not because I'm fast or exceptional, but because I want future donors to see someone like them crossing a finish line and think: maybe I could do that too. Maybe I could donate.
