Frequently Asked Questions

What is the NDSC Down Syndrome Policy Summit?

The NDSC Down Syndrome Policy Summit is a two-day event that brings advocates from all over the country to Washington, DC, to develop advocacy skills, learn about current policy issues, and meet with their elected officials on Capitol Hill.

What is Peer-to-Peer Fundraising?

Peer-to-peer fundraising allows participants to raise money through their own networks (friends, family, and colleagues) to support their participation.

We understand that cost can be a barrier to attending. This platform helps participants raise funds to offset travel and hotel expenses. Donations can be used cover airfare or ticketed ground transportation (such as Amtrak or Greyhound) to and from the event and hotel stays for you and your family members.

A portion of funds rasied (25 percent), as well as any funds beyond those needed for travel and hotel reimbursement expenses, supports NDSC’s policy and advocacy work year-round.

Do I have to fundraise to attend?

No. Fundraising is completely optional and is simply a tool to help offset the cost of attending.

How does this help cover my costs?

Funds you raise can be used for:

  • Airfare or ticketed ground transportation (train or bus to and from the event
  • Hotel accommodations

Funds cannot be used for:

  • Local transportation (rideshare, taxis, parking)
  • Meals or other personal expenses

How should I choose my travel assistance goal?

Estimate your total costs and use this formula:

(Travel cost + hotel cost) x 1.25 = fundraising goal

This accounts for your expenses plus the 25 percent that supports NDSC's advocacy work.

What happens next?

After the Policy Summit, and no later than October 31, 2026, submit an expense report with receipts to accounting@ndsccenter.org.

How do I set up my fundraising page?

Setting up your page is quick:

  1. Click the link to your page
  2. Add your name, photo, and a short message
  3. Set your goal
  4. Save and publish your page
  5. Share your link with friends, family, and colleagues
