Good Grief helps kids and families after the death of someone significant in their lives. They learn to build "continuing bonds," to maintain an enduring, evolving inner relationship with the deceased as a healthy, adaptive part of the grieving process.
Grief is woven throughout the Star Wars universe. Luke leaves Tatooine after the death of his Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen, telling Obi-Wan "there's nothing for me here." Obi-Wan grieves the death of Anakin, who was like a brother to him, but has fallen to the dark side and become Darth Vader. And Leia carries on after the destruction of Alderaan, including her adoptive parents.
But like continuing bonds, the Force connects them all. As Yoda says, "Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us, binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter."
Like the Ewoks celebrating the defeat of the Empire in Return of the Jedi, we're excited to come together to celebrate the work of Good Grief by running, walking, or just dancing ("Yub Yub!") at the 2026 Princeton 5K Run and Walk!
