Why I Walk

On December 26, 2023, my son, Lincoln Reed Gaspard, was born at just 25 weeks after I developed severe preeclampsia. He spent 29 days fighting with everything he had before he passed away in my arms.

There isn't a single day that goes by that I don't think about him.

I walk because Lincoln should still be here. I walk because no parent should have to leave the hospital without their baby. I walk because no family should have to hear the words, "We need to deliver today," before they're ready.

Preeclampsia affects 1 in 12 pregnancies, yet so many people have never heard of it until it changes their lives forever. More research, earlier detection, better treatments, and greater awareness have the power to save mothers and babies.

Every year, walking in the Promise Walk is one of the most meaningful ways I get to honor Lincoln's life. It allows me to speak his name, share his story, and help create a future where fewer families experience this kind of heartbreak.
