Why I Walk
I walk for my daughter, Nelia Aaryn Hallgrimson. And I walk for all the moms, dads, and babies who have experienced preeclampsia. It's not easy and it's not a journey that most talk about. Losing my daughter to preeclampsia has been the hardest thing I've ever experienced. I think about it all the time and the one thing that I want for any family is to be able to help them to know how to advocate for themselves. Being told my entire pregnancy "everything looks good and perfect and not to worry" made me think that I had nothing to worry about and just go to the appointments they told me to. So when it suddenly went to "we want to monitor you" within less than 2 weeks time, I had no time to learn how to advocate for myself and my daughter. I want to bring more awareness to preeclampsia and help parents learn how to advocate for themselves even when everything "looks good".
