As a postpartum nurse, I have spent the last two an half years caring for mothers and educating families during one of the most important moments of their lives. I thought I knew the signs and risks of pregnancy complications — until I became a patient myself and was diagnosed with severe postpartum preeclampsia.

Experiencing this firsthand changed me forever and will change my nursing practice. What was most alarming was realizing how quickly symptoms can appear after delivery and how many mothers are unaware that preeclampsia can happen postpartum. Symptoms like severe headaches, high blood pressure, swelling, shortness of breath, and vision changes are often overlooked or dismissed.

As both a nurse and recent patient, I feel called to use my voice to bring awareness, advocate for maternal health education, and help save lives through early recognition and intervention.

I am fundraising to support preeclampsia awareness efforts, educational resources for mothers and families, and initiatives that promote safer postpartum care. No mother should suffer in silence or feel unprepared during such a vulnerable time.
