As a postpartum preeclampsia survivor, I’m proud to raise awareness of this condition and hope to raise money for this important cause!
Why I Walk
I walk for myself and every women who has survived preeclampsia and those who unfortunately lost their life or baby's life to preeclampsia.
August 2023, after having my baby girl I was having higher blood pressure readings before being discharged home. I was send home with a blood pressure cuff which ultimately ended up saving my life. 4 days postpartum I was 150s/90, by the time I made it to the hospital I was 180/100+. I was immediately given blood pressure medication though an IV, two times. But after a few minutes the alarm would sound again and my blood pressure was back up. I was quickly put on magnesium IV treatment for 24 hours, blood pressure taken every 15 minutes, bed padded and hands strapped incase of a seizure. I signed a form saying I could not hold or care for my newborn daughter, my entire world felt it was falling apart. It took a few days to get my blood pressure stabilized and two medications, it was the longest 4 days of my life and many tears were shed. I was very mentally affected and had to continue medications and monitoring for 6 weeks. Preeclampsia was incredibly terrifying and difficult to go through, I probably wouldn't be able to tell this story had I not been sent home with a blood pressure cuff. I walk for every person who has been affected, it has helped me to know I am not alone!
