I walk because no mother should have to experience the fear, the unknown and the trauma pre-eclampsia can bring to birth.
At 37 weeks I was admitted to the hospital for high blood pressure, diagnosed with severe preeclampsia, & was immediately induced. I labored for 52 unmedicated hours before I asked for the epidural and was rushed into an emergency cesarean just 15 minutes after. My baby had a nuchal cord and was in respiratory distress, and went immediately to NICU. I met my baby 26 hours after his birth due to the magnesium drip. It was the most terrifying experience of my life, a seemingly healthy pregnancy until it wasn't. I walk for the research, the science, the women, the babies and for the hope that one day we have more prevention measures.
