Preeclampsia almost took me out! ALMOST! The AUDACITY of Preeclampsia to try to slide in and separate me from my family! As a survivor, I'm grateful that I'm still here to tell my story. It's not discussed enough and so many women go through pregnancy not truly understanding what it is and how important it is to know the warning signs and to take them seriously. It's not just a headache! 

I work in the maternal health sector for a program that supports women and helps reduce negative outcomes such as those that come from Preeclampsia. As Black women, we are 3.5x more likely to die from childbirth and postpartum complications. Preeclampsia is one that more people need to know about.

As a Black woman and a survivor, I'm not only walking for myself. I'm walking for every woman who has come toe to toe with Pre-E and lived to tell about it. I walk for those who didn't make it and the families they left behind. I walk for the moms who are currently pregnant or who will one day bring life into this world with hope that they will have the care and support needed to have a healthy and joyful pregnancy. I walk for those who have already been diagnosed praying that they will stand with me as a survivor. I walk for the healthcare providers and researchers that they may have the tools and knowledge to improve the outcomes.

Pre-E has the AUDACITY to come for women and we have the AUDACITY to fight back.
