Why I Walk

Through my work at What to Expect and BabyCenter, I've learned so much about the preeclampsia warning signs that can make a life-or-death difference during pregnancy and postpartum. One of the most important lessons I've learned is that awareness saves lives, and that's why I'm participating in the Promise Walk again this year.

Preeclampsia is one of the most serious threats to moms and babies. It can appear suddenly and progress quickly, even in healthy pregnancies. Many preeclampsia symptoms — swelling, headache, breathlessness — are easy to mistake for normal late-pregnancy or postpartum discomforts. That's what makes awareness and education so critical: when parents-to-be know what to look for, they're better equipped to speak up, get help, and protect themselves and their babies.

I'm walking to shine a light on this condition, to support research and advocacy, and to honor every family who's been impacted by preeclampsia. Every parent deserves to feel safe and supported, and every baby deserves the chance to arrive healthy.
