Meet Your Walk Chair

Eulonda Whitmore was diagnosed with severe preeclampsia and the HELLP syndrome in October 2015. At 20 weeks + 5 days, she delivered her sleeping angel, Yalon Elise Isaac. Eulonda used this traumatic experience to help promote awareness of preeclampsia. Feel free to read my story at https://www.preeclampsia.org/our-stories/some-battles-are-to-save-others

Our Committee Members Why

Chelsea Hites - Our 2026 Mission Mom - Why I Walk?

I walk because I want to see the day when no other mom's and babies have to suffer from Preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome. My son and I are survivors of severe Preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome. Towards the last few weeks of my pregnancy, my increasing blood pressure, significant weight gain, and swelling was not taken seriously. I was rushed to the hospital with extreme right upper quadrant pain. I was started on magnesium and was told I would have a vaginal induction in the morning. A few hours later, all the doctors and nurses rushed into my room with my blood work results, and I was diagnosed with HELLP syndrome. My liver was dangerously close to rupture, and my platelets were so low, I would require an emergency c-section under general anesthesia. I was swept away to the OR not knowing if I would ever wake up again or if I would ever meet my son. Miraculously, my son was delivered safely and was in amazing health, even for being so small. Unfortunately, I ended up with a severe post-op hemorrhage requiring multiple blood transfusions. I am so extremely grateful to the team I had with me that day. Some had never even seen or treated HELLP syndrome before, but their quick thinking and teamwork saved us both. I am so grateful I listened to my body, because if I hadn't, I was told by my care team that I or my son would not be here today. I am using my experience to spread awareness that hopefully leads to a cure to these devastating hypertensive diseases of pregnancy.  Thank you for your support and I look forward to meeting and walking with you in August!

Kasey Donnelly - Why I Walk?

I walk to help raise awareness and to one day find a cure for preeclampsia. I walk to honor mothers and babies lost too soon to preeclampsia, and carry them with me. At 25 weeks I suddenly developed severe preeclampsia leading to my hospitalization and subsequent preterm birth of my son at 28 weeks. There were many times in my hospitalization where it was touch and go whether I needed to deliver immediately due to my increasing blood pressures, lab results and maxed out blood pressure medications. My son is doing well now as a kind, happy 2 year old. He is my why.

Becca Austin - Why I Walk?

I walk because I almost lost my life to preeclampsia, eclampsia, and HELLP syndrome. I had a lot of complications (PRES syndrome, heart damage, kidney and liver damage, placental abruption) and was in the ICU for 10 days and 3 days in a step down unit after my son was born via emergency c-section. I walk in the hope of helping continue to raise awareness about the impact of these pregnancy complications. I donate monthly to the Preeclampsia Foundation to fund research so that we can work towards no mothers or babies being separated because of these. I am so fortunate my son and I were able to finally meet each other 13 days after he was born and I am so grateful my son was healthy and okay.
