After giving birth to Quinn, I experienced postpartum preeclampsia and was hospitalized for several days at two-weeks postpartum. It was a pretty terrifying experience and one that opened my eyes to the world of hypertensive disorders of pregancy. The more I learned and heard others' stories, the more I realized how dangerous these conditions are, especially when moms are not adequately informed about the signs and symptoms to look out for or given timely postpartum care. I also began to learn about the amazing community of people working to find a cure for preeclampsia, educate survivors and parents-to-be, and improve healthcare practices around this issue. I am so excited to help organize and participate in Austin's Promise Walk for Preeclampsia. Finding community with other survivors and learning from them in my lowest moments has been so important to me, along with the opportunity to contribute toward research that supports a future where no moms, babies, or families ever experience this.
