Dawson's first seizure was June 5, 2010. At that time we had no idea what journey we would be going on. Over 10 years Dawson battled Dravet Syndrome. His days and nights were filled with multiple seizures and sadly many episodes of status epilepticus which is an ongoing seizure that won't stop without medical intervention. He was officially diagnosed with Dravet in October 2010 which was a blessing as many children with Dravet go years without a diagnosis. This meant better treatment options and avoiding contraindicated drugs. He had many hospital stays, therapies and multiple medications tried. He changed his diet to the keto diet for two years and had good success with controlling seizures at that time but slowly that stopped working too. He participated in a clinical trial for Epidiolex and had good success with decreased frequency of seizures and much less episodes of status. His development was impacted in many ways including limited speech, unsteady gait and autistic behaviors. 

 It's hard to believe Dawson has been in heaven for 6 years already. His short 10 years he was here gave us so many memories and so much love. He taught us so much and we miss his hugs and smirky grin. So many reminders each day of just how much he blessed us.  However there were also many struggles and experiences I would never wish anyone had to go through.  

So I am asking you to join us in this fundraiser to help those still struggling.  Many children with Dravet do not live to be 18 but this has been improving with research that has led to new treatments and better understanding of how this disease works.
