The Autism Cares Foundation (ACF) organization means a great deal to me. When Connor was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome in 1st grade it was a whole new world for us. As we tried to learn about Autism and how to meet Connor's needs at home and especially in school, we discovered how much we really didn't know. It took time, a lot of patience and a great deal of help to finally learn what needed to be done to aid Connor.
We got Connor an IEP, but it took a couple years to discover what we could do with it (funny the school district didn't want to share that). We were lucky to have support of specific members in his elementary school (and a few in the district) that had Connor's best interests in mind. We found an organization called ACCESS and I believe it was through them (not 100% sure on this) we came across ACF. Once we learned what ACF did for the local community, how much the people in organization cared AND the wealth of knowledge they had, it was a welcome source we needed. Whenever I reached out they always responded. If they could aid us directly, they would. If they couldn't, they directed us to someone who could help.
Connor has participated in many of their free or low cost events, such as Altitude Trampoline Park, gaming event, movie nights and eventually we'll get him to Top Golf (the monthly date/time usually interfere with his college classes).
ACF is such a wonderful organization that supports a super community of people. That's why I have participated every year for the past 10 years in the Race 4 Resouces. Yep, this is our 10th year doing the walk and raising funds!
It would mean the world to us if you could join us on September 19th to do the 1 mile walk. We are hoping to make this a big year of participants that include family and friends.
