I'm raising money for Texas 4000 for Cancer!

About Me & Texas 4000
Hello! My name is Nadia Toh, and I’m a senior at the University of Texas at Austin studying biomedical engineering. Starting on May 16th 2026, I’ll be biking 4,000+ miles from Austin, Texas, to Anchorage, Alaska to raise awareness and funds for cancer with Texas 4000 For Cancer by spreading hope, knowledge, and charity. This will entail a 70-day journey through North America on the Sierra route with my team of 19 UT students. Throughout this school year, I’ve been fundraising, logging over 1,250 training miles on the bike, planning the logistics of our journey, and learning the social landscape of cancer. Since its establishment in 2004, Texas 4000 For Cancer has raised over $4.5 million for cancer research and support services as a nonprofit. If you can, please consider donating to help me reach my $10,000 goal and contact me directly if you think your company might offer donation matching. Thank you so much for learning about my journey and what this ride means to me.

Why I Ride
I ride for my mom. In 2010, she was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma, a type of skin cancer resulting from excessive sun exposure. I remember being a little girl in the waiting room, unaware of the situation, playfully asking if we could go home yet. Although I didn’t understand the full scope of what was happening then, the look of anxiety across my mom’s face as she walked out of the doctor’s office told me something was deeply wrong. Uneasiness and apprehension took over my family until she underwent surgery and made a full recovery, but that experience shifted the way I understood disease. As I grew up, I became aware of a world where not every story ends as fortunately as my family's did. So many people live with the fear of what’s next or the pain of losing someone too soon. I ride for the patients still fighting, for the families grieving, and for everyone who carries the weight of cancer in their lives.

Through Texas 4000, I ride for the people we'll meet along the way, to show compassion and share their grief as we carry their stories across the continent. I ride to learn from medically underserved communities facing systemic barriers to healthcare, aiming to understand how regional and cultural differences affect their cancer experience. In a time where funding has been cut by 31% and counting, I ride to fund critical cancer research and development, a field I care deeply about and will be pursuing a career in post-graduation. I ride to push myself mentally, physically, and emotionally, pursuing a life-changing endeavor that will shape me into a resilient young woman with this group of college students, once strangers, now united with a common purpose. From a loved one to a neighbor, cancer impacts all of us. If there’s someone in your life you'd like me to dedicate part of my 4,000-mile journey to, please reach out — I’d be honored to ride in their name.

This ride may be mine physically, but it belongs to every person who supports me along the way. Your generosity makes this journey possible, from every hour on the bike to every story shared. I’m deeply grateful for your belief in me and this mission as I ride toward a cancer-free future. Thank you.

To Alaska and back,
