My Story
I began struggling with my mental health around 12 years old. I was scared to talk about what I was experiencing and I couldn’t make sense of it. I was ashamed of my depression and anxiety, which led to suicidal thoughts. I didn’t understand what mental health was or the importance of asking for help. Depression thrives in isolation and silence. Erika’s Lighthouse helps remove the stigma around mental illness by initiating conversation. They provide comprehensive depression education and suicide prevention curriculum to school districts across the country, at zero cost. Considering my own experience, I know the value of conversation and education surrounding mental health. When we shed light on the darkness of depression, we save lives.
