Losing a parent as a child is perhaps one of the most profound experiences one can have in childhood. My Dad died suddenly when I was 12, and my life changed in an instant. I had to grow up overnight and it affected me in ways I couldn't even have imagined at the time. It has permeated everything in my life - from the profession I chose, to the people I surround myself with, to the way I try to live my life as if each moment is my last. I was fortunate enough to have a Mom who supported me in every way a child can possibly be supported, and she worked with me to keep my Dad's memory alive. But it was still an isolating experience for me - because all around me were children with intact families. I so desperately wanted the chance to be able to talk to other kids who were going through what I was going through. Good Grief is so important to me because they ensure no child grieves alone.
