Running for Life — Literally

Running to prove that one kidney can change two lives!

For everyone, everywhere in need of a kidney -

In February 2020, I donated my kidney to my cousin, musician Bret Alexander — just three weeks before the world shut down. If our surgery had been even a little later, it would have been delayed, and Bret’s health could have taken a serious turn. Thankfully, the timing worked out perfectly. Today, Bret is thriving and filling the world with his music, and I like to imagine that my kidney is rocking out right beside him.

Since donating, I’ve completed two ultramarathons, two marathons, and countless half marathons and ten-milers. I’ve hiked through wild terrains and learned firsthand that living with one kidney doesn’t hold you back — it pushes you forward! This March, I’m taking on the United Airlines New York City Half Marathon to raise money for Kidney Donor Athletes, an organization proving that donors can live bold, adventurous, and athletic lives.

I live in Alexandria, VA, with my husband, Shawn, and our three cats, Mario, Harry, and Gertie. When I’m not running or hiking, you’ll find me traveling, reading, taking photos, or working in federal IT sales. Donating my kidney changed my life — and every mile I run reminds me how powerful one healthy kidney, and one determined person, can be.
