My friends know I am passionate about helping homeless animals.  I've been volunteering at the APS of Durham since 2012.  Since then, there have been a lot of highs and lows. I've met wonderful people from all walks of life, I've bonded with so many dogs and was fortunate to adopt Meghan and Zaira, I've cried happy and sad tears.   Through it all, I've learned a lot about animal behavior and about sheltering and about issues facing residents who have to surrender their pets.  My personal goal is to support a system that provides affordable spay/neuter, helps people keep their pets, and regulates backyard breeding.   The APS just doesn't have the funds to adequately address those issues. 

But the good news is we have a wonderful Interim Director who is passionate about the mission of APS and helping the organization reach its goals.   With our new positive, forward-thinking leadership, I am more positive than ever that the APS can continue helping homeless animals and expand its community support.    That is why I am asking for donations during a very hard time, when most of us are strapped for cash.  Even $5 makes a difference - providing treats or toys for the animals while they wait for their forever homes.
