Take a Stand. Take a Walk. Make an Impact.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® is STAR’s annual one-mile community walk that brings people together to raise awareness about sexual violence and show solidarity with survivors across Alaska. It is bold, it is heartfelt, and yes, it's fun, too! Whether you walk in heels, sneakers, or boots, your steps help create a safer, more compassionate community.

Why We Walk: Too many Alaskans are victims of sexual trauma.

Every step at Walk a Mile shows your commitment to ending sexual violence and supporting survivors. Your involvement helps STAR provide free, confidential services, from crisis response to long‑term healing, for thousands of Alaskans each year, and it strengthens STAR’s prevention education programs that teach skills to stop violence before it starts.

How it Works

Walk a Mile is for everyone: individuals, families, teams, workplaces, and community groups. Sign up solo or with your crew, raise funds to support STAR’s mission, then hit the route together in a big show of solidarity for survivors. After the walk, stick around for music, photos, and plenty of community fun. High heels are optional, but the good vibes are guaranteed.

About Walk a Mile: Put Yourself in Her Shoes™

Since 2001, individuals and their families around the world have joined the award-winning Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®: The International Men's March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault & Gender Violence.

Originally designed to get men involved in ending men's sexualized violence, we invite EVERYONE to Walk with us to raise awareness about the serious causes, effects, and remediations for sexualized violence. We recognize that men are not the only perpetrators of sexualized violence, and we know that women aren't the only victims. This is why people of every age and gender are welcome - young or old, tall or small.  We need YOU to help us continue our work to prevent and respond to sexual violence in our community.

Proceeds from the event will go directly to support STAR's client services and prevention programs. STAR provides 24/7 crisis intervention, medical and court accompaniment, and ongoing support services for individuals in our community who are impacted by sexual violence.  STAR is also striving to reduce sexual assault and abuse in Alaska through prevention and education programs for people of all ages in K-12 schools, adults in workplaces, and community groups.
