Why I'm raising money for Wellness House and need your help

Sure, the medical and radiation oncologists, nurses and technicians have kept me physically alive this past four years. But it has been Wellness House that has kept me living my best life.

Why you should walk with me for the Wellness House ... or just send money

Last month my son flew in from Rhode Island for my 10th chemotherapy session. He sat with me through the 90-minute waiting-room wait, then three hours of infusion. The next day, he joined me at Wellness House for a session with my therapist, where we explored what it means to live with metastatic prostate cancer — together.

Hours later, we were laughing hysterically as he turned a realistic race car driving simulation into a demolition derby.

That’s the power of Wellness House.

My therapist there taught me something I never expected to learn from cancer: aim for a life that’s 60% humor, and only 40% illness. Seek fun and laughter, even in the face of something incurable. I couldn’t have found that without the therapists, support groups, and programs at Wellness House — and I’m not sure I’d still be fighting as hard without it.

For 35 years, Wellness House has served more than 50,000 people across Chicagoland, offering over 500 programs every month — all completely free to patients and their families. It has become a national model for cancer support. None of it happens without donor support.

That’s why I’m walking. And that’s why I’m asking you to join me, May 3 at 8 a.m. in Hinsdale IL and give what you can.

Every dollar helps someone fighting for their life find not just support, but joy. Please donate today.
