Event Information
1. What is Lowcountry Food Bank, and who do they serve?
Founded in 1983, Lowcountry Food Bank strives to fulfill its mission to unite our community in pursuit of equitable, dignified, and consistent access to food. Lowcountry Food Bank partners with 240+ partner agencies across the 10 coastal counties of South Carolina to provide nourishing food for our neighbors. Partner agencies include on-site meal programs, homeless shelters, and emergency food pantries.
2. Where will the Walk to Fight Hunger take place?
The 2026 Walk to Fight Hunger will take place at Wannamaker Park at the Tupelo Shelter located at 8888 University Blvd., North Charleston. Signs will be posted at the park leading participants to the event location.
3. When will the Walk to Fight Hunger take place?
Saturday, September 26, 2026. Check-in opens at 10:30am, and the Walk will kick off at 12pm. Before and after the Walk, participants can visit vendors and take part in event activities.
4. How long is the Walk?
The Walk is a two-mile interactive loop. Signage will be posted throughout the route to guide walkers.
5. Is there a fee to enter Wannamaker Park?
There is a fee of $2 per person to enter the park. Entrance to the park is free with a Gold Pass. If you have a large group and would like to purchase passes in advance, please call the Park & Program Services at (843) 795-4386. Passes can then be mailed to you or picked up the day of the event.
6. Will food and water be provided at the event?
Water and light snacks will be available for participants. To help encourage sustainability, we encourage participants to also bring a reusable water bottle. Water fountains are available for use at the park.
Participation
1. Is there a fee to register for the Walk to Fight Hunger?
Registration is FREE! Individuals can also choose to register with a $25 donation to receive a commemorative Walk to Fight Hunger t-shirt.
2. How do I receive a Walk to Fight Hunger t-shirt?
Participants can receive a commemorative Walk to Fight Hunger t-shirt* by selecting one of the following registration types:
- Walker (includes one commemorative WTFH T-shirt with $25 donation)
- Child Walker (includes one commemorative WTFH t-shirt with $25 donation)
*T-shirts can be picked up at event check-in or at the Lowcountry Food Bank Charleston offices the week before the Walk.
4. Can I bring my dog?
Of course! Bring your furry family member along! Per park rules: pets must be kept on a leash, cleaned up after, and under control at all times. For their safety, pets may not be left in vehicles.
5. Is handicapped parking available at Wannamaker Park?
Yes, accessible parking with paved accessible route to shade structures, benches, and water fountain is available. For more information on accessibility in Charleston County Parks, please contact the ADA Coordinator at 843-795-4386.
Fundraising and Donations
1. What happens with funds raised at the Walk to Fight Hunger?
All funds support Lowcountry Food Bank's programs and services that help provide nourishing food for families in need and connect our neighbors with critical resources across the 10 coastal counties of South Carolina. $1 helps create 3 nourishing meals. 96% of every charitable dollar received is spent on direct services and programs.
2. Am I required to fundraise or create a fundraising page to attend this event?
No, you are not required to fundraise or create a fundraising page to attend this event. After you select your registration type, simply check the box, "I don't want my own fundraising goal and page." See screenshot below for reference:
3. Can my company sponsor the Walk to Fight Hunger?

4. Can I donate to support the event even though I cannot attend?
Yes! You can make a gift on the event home page.
Weather
1. What if it rains?
The Lowcountry Food will pay close attention to the weather pattern leading up to the event and will adjust as needed. This event will take place rain or shine, however, if conditions appear threatening, all registrants and sponsors will be notified. Lowcountry Food Bank social media will also be updated the morning of the event in the case of threatening weather conditions. Follow us on social media to stay up-to-date!
