It just so happens that this race is scheduled precisely three years after I was diagnosed with the big C. In other words, I was not expected to be able to run the Disney Marathon on January 11th, 2026. Not much is expected from people with stage 4 cancer, especially after 12 rounds of chemo …but in reality, it is one’s will, not statistics, that determines success. To prove it, I did an Ironman triathlon three months after finishing chemotherapy while my scans started showing no evidence of cancer. Today, I am still cancer-free, feeling great, and as I completed three more triathlons, I began to see cancer more as an opportunity than a challenge. I am proud to say that my family —my wife, Mariana, our daughter, Olivia, and our son, Ben —has united with me to leverage my experience in support of others. Shortly after I signed up for this race, Olivia approached me and asked if she could help my fundraising efforts. My wife and my son joined shortly after, and now we will run as the Team Savar.
