Christopher O'Shaughnessy

Christopher O’Shaughnessy is an engaging speaker, author, and comedian who helps students, educators, and communities better understand identity, belonging, and the human experience of living in and in-between cultures. Known for his unique blend of storytelling, humor, and insight, Chris equips audiences with practical ways to build empathy, strengthen relationships, and develop resilience in the face of change.

Chris’ work focuses on how young people develop a sense of identity, belonging, and emotional strength in different environments. Drawing on research, personal experience, and years of work with schools around the world, he helps audiences explore how mobility, cultural diversity, and rapid change shape the way students see themselves and others. His presentations offer practical tools for building resilience, improving communication, and fostering healthy school and community cultures where students feel seen, understood, and valued.

Chris is the author of Arrivals, Departures and the Adventures In- Between, a widely praised book exploring the experiences of globally mobile young people and the life skills they develop along the way. The book has been recommended by educators, counselors, and experts in cross-cultural development as an accessible and insightful resource for students and adults alike.

A dynamic and adaptable communicator, Chris speaks to audiences ranging from students to educators, parents, and leadership teams. Whether addressing a student assembly, facilitating professional development, or delivering an impactful keynote, Chris is known for his ability to combine laughter with meaningful reflection and practical insight.

Born in England to American parents and raised in the globally mobile military community, Chris has lived and worked across multiple countries and has traveled to more than 100 nations. These experiences deeply inform his work and give him a unique perspective on the ways culture, identity, and belonging shape young people’s lives today.

Chris studied Youth & Community Work and Applied Theology at Ridley Hall, Cambridge, in partnership with Oxford Brookes University. Today he works with schools, organizations, and communities worldwide, helping them better understand the human side of cultural diversity while equipping students and adults to build empathy, resilience, and meaningful connection.
