I’m excited to be participating in 2026 Xtreme Hike from Rim to Rim of the Grand Canyon on October 8th - 11th, a fundraiser supporting National Ataxia Foundation! Ataxia is currently classed as an ‘incurable’ condition.
I am Jonathan Stone, a 67 year old performer /musician /writer based in London UK. Having travelled worldwide with my work (including spells in Minneapolis and across the US) I was diagnosed with Spino-Cerebellar Ataxia (SCA17) in March 2017.
My life changed radically, but I have learned to live and thrive with my Ataxia, and plan to undertake this challenge and raise funds for research into this devastating condition.
I have always been physically active (despite falling over!) and started training for the event. I am receiving guidance from medical, fitness and hiking experts, and emotional and logistic support from those close to me. With all their help I am confident of being ready by October.
