Hi everyone! My name is Lindsey Won, and I am a second-year Neuroscience major at UT Austin. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my page!

In the spring semester of my senior year of high school, my grandmother was diagnosed with lung cancer that had already metastasized to her brain. Separated by 7,000 miles, I experienced her diagnosis from a distance—through phone calls, updates, and the quiet uncertainty that came with not being physically present. Despite the circumstances, she approached her treatment with a resilience that left an incredibly lasting impression on me. Experiencing these challenges in parallel encouraged me to reflect more critically on the various facets of health and illness.

As a pre-health student, I’ve come to understand that outcomes are rarely determined by a single diagnosis. They are molded over time by access to care, health literacy, and the resources available to individuals and families. Watching my grandparents navigate illness with limited access to these resources made that reality especially clear. It revealed how deeply inequities can influence not only treatment but the experience of illness itself.

I ride for my grandmother and for those close to me who have been affected by cancer. Beyond my own experiences, I ride for individuals and communities who face barriers to care, education, and early detection.
