When I was 11, my dad died from pancreatic cancer. He was given 6 months to live and survived for 7 more years instead. I grew up inside the hospitals he stayed in, alternating between the sadness that comes from the inevitability of losing my dad and the joys of things like getting the best cafeteria food of my life, fighting with my parents over who gets the apple pie.

To me, Texas 4000 represents stepping up to the plate. I learned resilience quickly and early in my youth, but I could only have done so with the help of all of the people that filled in the gaps of having a dying parent. This endeavor, from biking 4000+ miles to raising $7.5k to engaging the community and being a part of a team, is my opportunity to give back to everyone that gave me a support system. 

I am terrified of biking, but I have never shied away from seeking discomfort. The prospect of being able to strengthen my mental and physical fortitude is SO exciting, and having your support not only contributes to my personal growth but proliferates the power of community.
