WHY I RIDE
HI Y'ALL
My name is Abby Scott, and I am a third-year student at The University of Texas at Austin majoring in Government and International Relations & Global Studies, with a minor in French. Thank you for visiting my fundraising page and taking the time to learn more about Texas 4000 for Cancer. I truly appreciate your interest and support!
As a member of the 2027 Texas Team, I ride in honor of my sunshine, my mom.
When I was born, doctors discovered that my mom had thyroid cancer. As a premature baby, I spent my first days in an incubator while my mom began radioactive therapy. After winning her battle against cancer, she left her career in law to become an oncology nurse, transforming her own experience into a lifelong commitment to serving others who face the same battle. My mom is a source of light to everyone she encounters. From watching her spend countless nights making enchiladas for her patients to witnessing her heart break after losing those who had fought so bravely against cancer, I have seen the depth of her compassion. Through the challenges that cancer brings, she continues to shine with hope, joy, and empathy.
I ride for those whose lives have been touched by cancer: those who have just received a diagnosis, those courageously enduring treatment, and those who have lost their lives to this disease. I ride in honor of the families who stand beside their loved ones, holding their hands through moments of uncertainty, fear, and hope, as well as those who carry the weight of loss. I ride in gratitude for the oncology nurses who provide comfort, strength, and compassion while witnessing both victories and heartbreak.
Through Texas 4000 for Cancer, I aim to push my physical and mental limits in honor of the extraordinary strength of patients, families, and caregivers whose lives have been touched by cancer. In the summer of 2027, I will embark on a 70-day, 4,000-mile bike ride from Austin, Texas, to Anchorage, Alaska. I will ride to share hope, knowledge, and charity while raising funds and awareness to support cancer research and support services.
