Cancer is one of the most significant problems plaguing society, killing over 2 million people in just this country alone. Globally, one person in every six is bound to die of this disease. To do my part in combating this crisis, I have joined Texas 4000 for Cancer. This organization empowers me to learn valuable leadership skills while actively engaging communities in the fight against cancer. Through a 4,000-mile bike ride from Austin, Texas, to Anchorage, Alaska, I will help people sign up for blood, bone marrow, and other health donation programs and fund vital cancer research. This organization has also convened thousands of people for community bike rides and cancer screening events, promoting healthy, active lifestyles. Our impact helps reduce the risk of developing the most preventable and/or treatable cancers, including skin, breast, colon, lung, and cervical cancers. I anticipate this journey to be one full of personal growth, valuable lessons, and a profound sense of fulfillment. Your contribution becomes part of something far greater than either of us alone. Together, we can loosen cancer's hold on the people we love and the communities we cherish.
