Hello! My name is Tyler O’Brien. To tell you just a bit about myself, this past May I graduated with a B.S. in Computational Engineering and am staying around for one more year to get my M.S. in Computational Science, Engineering, and Mathematics. Apart from my course work, I spend most of my time either practicing as a member for the Longhorn Band, playing sports, or spending time with friends and family. I am happy to say that in the summer of 2027, I will bike more than 4000 miles from Austin, Texas to Anchorage, Alaska as a member of the Texas 4000 2027 Ride Team. 

Throughout my life, I’ve had many different opportunities to be a part of a team working towards a common goal. Every experience I’ve had has helped me learn about pushing through difficult moments, supporting the people around me, and being a part of something bigger than myself. I want to be a part of Texas 4000 so I can surround myself with a group of people with a shared goal of engaging with the community in the fight against cancer. 

When deciding to go through with this, I had to ultimately think about why I wanted to do this. The idea that kept coming back to me was that I want to ride for those who can’t. Cancer takes away so much from families and presents them with challenges that they never asked for. Through T4K, I have the opportunity to choose a challenge on my own and push myself physically and mentally while I support the cause.
