Hi!

My name is Julia, and I'm a UT Austin senior that has been selected to be part of the T4K 2027 Summer Ride Team. Where next summer, I'll be biking from Austin TX to Anchorage Alaska to raise money and awareness for cancer research.

I first found out about Texas 4000 my freshman orientation back before fall 2023, but at the time it felt like something completely outside of my reach. I ended up spending the next two years and a half in a rowing club called Texas Crew where I woke up at 4:30AM six times a week, where I owe a lot of my character development to. It is because of this experience that I had the guts to return and apply to Texas 4000, and this time every part of my being knew it wanted this. 

I don't have one obvious 'why' like most people in my team. Rather an undeniable desire to be part of this, as well as an accumulation of reasons that directed me to be here. Somewhere in between me losing my grandfather to lung cancer when I was two, to me today witnessing cancer diagnosis whist shadowing, I understand the gravity the word 'cancer' carries. With your help, I'd like to fulfill my university's motto, "what starts here changes the world," by fundraising money to fund cancer research, and with it hope.
