The fight against cancer is not like any other struggle. It takes a committed support system, personal strength, and hope in a better future. Breast cancer has impacted the lives of both of my aunts, and although I've been lucky enough to avoid losing a loved one to cancer, so many others are not as fortunate. I became a part of Texas 4000 for Cancer to join in the fight and support the people around me in their fights against cancer. My good friend Byla, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma this summer, has fought cancer with grace and a smile, and she inspires me every day as a bright and supportive friend even in the face of such scary adversity. I want to be a friend that she can always look to for a smile and a hug. In addition, the empathy, understanding, and resilience I will gain through undergoing this journey of philanthropy, development, and physical endurance will make me more motivated and able to make a positive difference wherever my next steps in life take me.
