The week before I moved to college, a phone call would change my family’s lives forever, where my brother was diagnosed with stage IV cancer. That day, I learned that cancer could happen to anyone, no matter how healthy you are. The guilt of not being there for him redefined my understanding of what it means to be present, inspiring me to join Texas 4000 for Cancer. In Texas 4000 for Cancer, I plan to transform the same guilt I felt into real presence, building a community for cancer families in which everyone is heard and encouraged. You are capable of transforming the cancer community, funding revolutionary research and advancing social services for patients and families alike. By pooling in our efforts and combining them together, we can build a force that can bring a new kind of hope in the fight against this disease.
