Homeless animals, so many of them. Dogs left to fend for themselves, dogs left behind because they are no longer needed. Dogs abandoned in buildings because the owners moved, dogs used for fighting, and the list goes on. Upon retirement 2010, I thought I'd volunteer for the DE SPCA. Little did I know this would change my life. In 2017, DE SPCA became Brandywine Valley SPCA (BVSPCA). I've realized, through the years, these gorgeous creatures have given to me more than I could ever give to them. At eight months of age, A Better English Setter Rescue found Chief, tied up to a chain outside since he was born. The picture of Chief was hard to resist so we became fosters. Naturally we were foster fails in 2016. If you know the breed, English Setters love to run. For four years, we were very careful making sure he would not escape, but the day came when he did. Two very dear friends came to help look for Chief. Tragically they found him lying in a ditch; he had been hit and killed by a car. We've never experienced such a loss, but we knew we needed to help another dog. Just recently we adopted another English Setter, George, who was found on the streets of Instanbul, Turkey where dogs must fend for themselves. I believe it is our responsibility to continue to help these homeless animals everywhere. So in remembrance of Chief, come join Team Chief and donate so more and more animals can be saved. Thank you, everyone, for doing your part in saving homeless animals.
