For the next 20 days, I'll be doing yoga for 20 minutes and donating $20 each day to raise money for Children Rising.

Why?

Great question. It's because I can relate to the children I'm raising these funds for. I grew up in the Western Addition/Fillmore in San Francisco, before Hayes Valley a hotspot to go to. I struggled with reading and school, just like these kids are now. I know what it means to come from an unrepresented neighborhood, to be impacted by poverty and education inequity. This is why it matters so much to me.

What can you do?

Would you donate $20 to celebrate 20 years of Children Rising helping children in the East Bay realize their full potential?

My goal is to raise $800 and I've already donated $20 for 20 days to match. So if I get just 20 people to donate $20, I'll reach my goal! More so, what you will be donating goes such a long way in helping a kid get the support and guidance they need to succeed.

Together, one child at a time, we are building bridges to a better future. 

Since 2001, Children Rising has partnered with East Bay schools serving communities most impacted by poverty, violence, racial injustice, and educational inequity. We do that by coming alongside thousands of struggling children and youth and empowering them to rise to their God-given potential.

Last year, 400 children received the gift of foundational learning, improved self-confidence, and the sense of hope that always follows. However, due to the impact of COVID-19, the achievement gap in the communities we serve has grown larger. There are so many more loving and intelligent children who deserve the same chance to learn and have a much better opportunity to realize their potential as they grow.

Children Rising has developed online, one-on-one tutoring capabilities to connect eager students with a caring tutor. The solution is simple, though not easy. Anyone can be a mentor in a young life, and a positive force for change, regardless of age, professional demands, or location.
