The first time someone said “Autism” while describing Miss Lily, it really went over our heads. Words. Nothing more, nothing less. What we really wanted to talk about was what we were seeing change with our baby girl. She was two and a half…and she had quit talking. She physically was great! The healthiest one in the house actually! (Still is…) But it was as if time had started to stand still for Miss Lily…and that clock seems to be stuck right at the age of 18 months….at best.
Fraser was there for us when we had not even truly heard the word “Autism” yet. They were there to see our amazing baby girl in action, while recognizing that things just were not “normal”. Fraser was there to explain the complicated details that accompany the word Autism. They were there to help us lay out a plan, that would help Lily continue to grow and thrive in a world that is not designed for the way she thinks. Fraser was there for us.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, 1 in 68 children have autism. Thousands of Minnesota families are faced with the challenges of navitaging an autism diagnosis each year.
Fortunately, evidence shows early intervention can result in dramatically positive outcomes. Given the right tools and support, those living with autism can make great strides at any point in their lives. This April, Miss Lily's Dream Team will be raising support and awareness for Minnesota families affected by autism at the Fraser Walk for Autism. We had a FANTASTIC team of walkers and supporters last year allowing us to meet our financial goal!!!! So what has Miss Lily continued to teach us? It's time to up that goal!
