I’m running the New York City Marathon this year with the Children’s Heart Foundation, and I’m doing it for my brother, Carter.
My brother Carter was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, a serious congenital heart condition. He passed away when he was very young, but his story is a big part of why this matters to me.
Training for a marathon takes time, discipline, and consistency but it’s nothing compared to what kids like Carter go through. That perspective is what keeps me moving.
Growing up, I didn’t just hear about Carter, I've watched what his loss has meant for my parents every single day. The grief of losing a child doesn’t go away. It shows up in quiet moments, in milestones he never got to reach, in the life that should have been his. It’s something our family carries with us always.
I’m not just running to finish a race, but running to support research and care that can give more kids a better chance for longer lives, stronger hearts, and more opportunities to grow up.
If you choose to support, you’re contributing to something bigger than one race. You’re helping fund progress for families who are facing challenges like ours did.
